The Old Republic

SWTOR is the Fastest Growing MMO in History

The early critics and fans have bestowed a ton of praise on Bioware's recently released MMO, Star Wars: The Old Republic.  With that, fans have flocked to the subscription based title in droves.  So much so that the MMO has been crowned 'The Fastest Growing MMO in History'.

With tens of millions of in-game hours already logged into the new game by over a million new users since launch, Bioware's Dr. Ray Muzyka had this to say about the successful release.

"Already over a million players strong after our December 20 launch, The Old Republic has become the fastest growing subscription MMO in the history of our industry.  Everyone at Bioware, EA and LucasArts is honored - and humbled - by the stellar response from our fans.  We're going to work together closely with our community in the weeks, months and years ahead, continually serving our audience with regular delivery of compelling new features and content."

As seems to be the case with most MMOs, The Old Republic launch has not been without its problems. Long server queues and a hefty problematic install have given some users fits, though once inside the massive game it's hard to find fault with the extremely polished brand of MMO with the distinct Bioware feel.

Our View

As a player who has forsaken World of Warcraft for the final time to come and play SW:TOR, I must say that I have no regrets. WoW will definitely never see me again as I traverse the huge galaxy on offer from Bioware. I'm enjoying the variety of original classes, specifically the cover mechanic on the Imperial Agent/Smuggler.

True, there were and still are a few bugs. For instance, my game crashes every hour or so, requiring a system reboot before I can play again. But to be honest, this is not game-breaking and I can live with it until Bioware bring out a fix. Servers were patched yesterday to fix one or two other issues and the customer support from the company is excellent so far.

Definitely a must if you're in the market for a new MMO!
