I'll Fix Your Wagon 02 - We Wait in Anticipation
What's to Come in 2012? It's that time of year again when you've barely managed to get a good session with the games you got for Christmas and you're already thinking about what the new year will bring! Well, we can tell you it's shaping up to be another fantastic year for gaming and titles with the number 3 at the end. We've compiled a list of our most anticipated games of the year. We're not in the business of liking games because all the hype tells us to, so we'll tell you exactly what we think. Kick back, relax and read on... Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Future Soldier Anticipated Release: March Platforms: Xbox 360/PS3/Handhelds http://ghostrecon.uk.ubi.com Optical camouflage, remote-controlled drones, full weapon customisation, Xbox Kinect with voice and motion control. What do all these things point to? Surely what will be one of the best games of the new year, that's what! Mass Effect 3 Anticipated Release: March 6th Platforms: Xbox 360/PS3/PC http://www.masseffect.com If there's one thing I have been convinced of this Christmas, it's Bioware's ability to make a cracking game with a deep, involving story. I'm willing to forgive them for Dragon Age 2 and take on ME3 with a fresh mind. This could well be a contender for Game of the Year 2012! Max Payne 3 Anticipated Release: March Platforms: Xbox 360/PS3/PC http://www.rockstargames.com/maxpayne3 If you remember playing the first Max Payne way back in the murky depths of the past, then you'll know that this is a gaming series that can hold its own. Let's hope that there's some truly stunning set-pieces and the same emotional depth that the first game possessed. Assassin's Creed 3 Anticipated Release: (TBA)Q3/Q4 2012 Platforms: Xbox 360/PS3/PC (Unconfirmed) http://assassinscreed.ubi.com Very little is known about this game at the moment, apart from a sort-of confirmation that it will take place in Egypt and it will feature a brand new assassin. This will be the conclusion to Desmond Miles' story, so expect it to be the best in the series yet! BioShock Infinite Anticipated Release: June Platforms: Xbox 360/PS3/PC http://www.bioshockinfinite.com Another strong contender for Game of the Year, this is shaping up to be fantastic. BioShock games tick all the boxes when it comes to storytelling, setting, mechanics and scaring the crap out of you. Let's hope the third entry in the series doesn't disappoint. Tomb Raider Anticipated Release: Q3 2012 Platforms: Xbox 360/PS3/PC http://www.tombraider.com If I had to choose just one game to get my hands on this year, it would be Tomb Raider. Set to be a reboot of the previously-ailing game franchise, this title will focus on a much younger and realistic Lara, introducing an awesome new weapon in the longbow and turning the heroine into a wilderness survivor. Think Bear Grylls crossed with Rambo in the body of a teenage girl. Grand Theft Auto V Anticipated Release: TBA Platforms: Xbox 360/PS3/PC (Unconfirmed) http://www.rockstargames.com/V The fifth installment in the GTA series, it's already being estimated that it will outsell the next CoD release. I personally was not a fan of GTA 4, but I have high hopes for the next in the series. Rockstar impressed with Red Dead Redemption last year, so this should be very good indeed. |
The Rest
Now, there are a few games that we haven't mentioned above. This is because we just don't want to play them as much as the rest, nothing personal (mostly). Here's our list of runners-up and the games we're just plain tired of.
Runners-Up Final Fantasy XIII-2 Soul Calibur V Resident Evil Revelations Uncharted: Golden Abyss Silent Hill: Downpour Ninja Gaiden III Guild Wars 2 Borderlands 2 Diablo III XCOM The Last Guardian Just Plain Tired Halo 4 I feel Halo has run its course, much like CoD and Gears of War. I enjoyed the first game the most and didn't get much out of the sequels at all. It may just be time to hang up the helmet. Hitman: Absolution Having watched the trailer for this game, I'm a little uneasy with the direction they're taking the game in. It's the same thing that happened to the Splinter Cell games - please spare our beloved clothes-stealer from the modern-day FPS crowd! ~ Cirias |
